November 15th, 2013 by WLOY Staff

91520177958567Loyola soccer is officially through one full season as part of the Patriot League, and changes are already in order. Both the men’s soccer coach, Mark Mettrick, and women’s soccer coach, Katherine Remy Vettori, will not have their contracts renewed and will not be back at Loyola next year.

The men finished the 2013 season with a conference record of 2-6-1 and an overall record of 7-8-2. The women were about the same in terms of conference play, going 1-6-2 in conference play, but struggled outside the conference as well, going 2-11-4 overall.

The first year in the Patriot League was expected to be a rough one, but Athletic Director Jim Paquette saw this season as rough enough for the soccer program that changes were necessary. Both coaches were thanked for their service and commitment to Loyola by Paquette and the rest of the Athletic Department.

For the time being, the men’s team will be taken over by interim head coach Matt Dwyer, who was the Assistant Coach, and the women’s team will be run by interim head coach Emily Janss, an Assistant Coach as well. A national search for new head coaches for both teams will begin immediately.
