Open Walk-On Rowing Tryouts

NCAA Rowing: Head of the SchuytkillHey there! Interested in being a Division-1 athlete?

Look no further than the men’s and women’s rowing teams. The teams are looking for students of all levels of experience, ranging from first-timer to die-hard rower.

The members of the squads will be available for information on Wednesday, September 17th at Ridley Athletic Complex during the home soccer game. And the final information session will be in the Athletics Film Room in the basement of the Student Center on Friday, September 19th.

The teams have had a lot of success in recent years thanks to their inclusion of rowers of all skill levels and experiences.

If you are in any way interested, come to the information session on the 19th or email Head Coach Al Ramirez at aramirez@loyola.edu.

He’s Got To Go!

rice-480x320There are no more excuses the NFL can provide, no more apologies that can be made, and no more field time that can be pictured. Action needs to be taken against Ray Rice by the Baltimore Ravens and the NFL immediately.

There was already enough controversy over the fact that NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell suspended Ravens’ Running Back Ray Rice a total of 2 games for domestic violence charges filed against Rice. The mistake made by Goodell in terms of his decision was magnified by the fact that he has been cracking down on players smoking marijuana, and taking that more seriously than a domestic violence case.

Now there can be no more questions as to whether or not Rice hit his then girlfriend, now wife, Janay Palmer. Thanks to TMZ Sports, the security video from within the elevator where the crime happened has now surfaced, and it is appalling.

Looking for some great sports action just before NFL Sunday? Look no further than Reitz Arena.

The Loyola Greyhounds volleyball team will be hosting a volleyball tournament, known as the Greyhound Challenge, this Friday and Saturday in Reitz Arena.

 

The tournament will feature the Dartmouth Big Green, the Saint Francis Red Flash, the Quinnipiac Bobcats, and your very own Loyola Greyhounds.

The Greyhound Challenge is a round-robin tournament between the four teams. The schedule of games is as follows:

Festival Spotlight: Hot August Music Festival

Hot August Festival Since it’s inception in Brad Selko’s back yard the Hot August Blues Festival has grown to fill the hillside at Oregon Ridge every year, packing another side stage and a huge kids area. It’s also gone through a name change to the Hot August Music Festival. Selko has long tried to vary the genre of acts gracing the stage and this year is no exception with a great varied lineup including: Old Crow Medicine Show, Nickel Creek, Dr. Dog, Tab Benoit, Turkuaz, Sister Sparrow & The Dirty Birds, Cabinet, Houndmouth, Long John Hunter, ELM, Bosley, Jordan August Band, and The Solicitors. The Baltimore LED Art Billboard

LED Art Billboard It began as a vision for Will Shanklin 8 years ago. At Artscape 2014 it was officially unveiled. This amazing structure is providing a much needed relief from the usual billboards crowding our streets and is creating visibility for a huge collection of artists in the region FOR FREE. Will Shanklin, the artist and visionary behind the billboard’s development and operation sat down for a chat with me right before the official launch of the billboard at Artscape 2014. He shared his idea for the billboard, it’s future and how it can impact art and Baltimore in a positive way. (more…)

4th of July with Moldie Oldies!

Our annual tradition continues!

Join Nick Centanni on WLOY 10-12PM and 6-8PM for 2 separate beachfront broadcasts of the Moldy Oldie Show this July 4!

Nick will have a mix of upbeat summer songs, Independence Day facts, jokes, and of course periodic visits from campus royalty via the ‘gold campus royalty phone.’

He will be up to his usual tricks so you won’t know what to expect next. There will also be a special Independence Day wishes from some familiar voices in the 6-8PM hours.

This is high octane radio so make it a date and don’t be late! The fun begins July 4 at 10AM all right here on WLOY!
