Sports Saturdays: Ravens vs. Eagles

Sunday’s match up between the Baltimore Ravens and Philadelphia Eagles bring together two teams that have much to prove this season. Andy Reid is on the hot seat as he needs to bring more to the table than his normal playoff appearance followed by their early exit.
For Baltimore, a team that has lost a huge asset in Terrell Suggs, this team will need to prove that they can still match up to most NFL teams defensively. Their age is beginning to make an appearance in their linebacker core and secondary set. Their age has already made an appearance in their offensive line.
What does that mean though in a match up between the Ravens and the Eagles?

Race to Embrace Independence

Lace up your sneakers for the 4th annual Marian House Race to Embrace Independence 5K and One-Mile Family Fun Run. This year, participants can also enjoy the race village, featuring food, entertainment, and activities for the entire family. The race raises critical funds for Marian House, an independent nonprofit that provides housing and support services for women who are homeless or suffering from addiction. Registration is $35 for adults and $20 for children.

Sports Saturdays: Baltimore Orioles and New York Yankees Match Up

America’s past time, Baseball, is a perfect way to begin and end any weekend. Why not take some friends against their will (no one condones such treatment at WLOY but if necessary, why not? They will thank you in the long run) and go see the Baltimore Orioles take on the Bronx Bombers, New York Yankees?
Now, there has to be some incentive besides the point that friends should be able to spend time together no matter what and wherever they are. Also, baseball in itself is a way to bond with others while participating in something that oozes Americana. But reality sinks in and more is required. That is why the Baltimore Orioles are offering amazing promotions to get families and friends to come to Oriole Park at Camden Yards. (more…)

Sports Saturday: Baltimore Grand Prix

Well, it’s been on and off again several times, but now it’s really ON. The Grand Prix of Baltimore is a major motorsports event in the streets of the Baltimore, running from the historic Inner Harbor to Camden Yard, Labor Day weekend, August 31 – September 2, 2012. The event will feature the IZOD IndyCar Series and the American Le Mans Series presented by Tequila Patron. Last year’s races were great and this year promises more fun.
IndyCar features a new racecar design for 2012 and turbocharged engines from Chevrolet, Honda and Lotus. The starting lineup will include Will Power, the 2011 winner at Baltimore, four-time champion Dario Franchitti and young stars such as Marco Andretti.
The American LeMans Series includes a wide array of racecars, from the ultra-exotic 200-mph prototypes (propelled by a variety of engines, including hybrids and diesel-powered machines) to the production-based GT machines.

Sports Saturday: Premier League Football in Baltimore

On Saturday July, 28th at 1:00 pm the Tottenham Hotspur Football Club will play Liverpool Football Club in M&T Bank Stadium. These are two of the most popular teams in the Barclay Premier League, who have never played in this region of the US!
Tottenham Hotspur Football Club is based in Tottenham, London, and play in the Barclays Premier League. Commonly referred to as the “Spurs,” Tottenham has won two Football League titles, eight Football Association Cups, four League Cups, one European Cup and two UEFA Cups.
Liverpool Football Club, commonly referred to as the “Reds,” also compete in the Barclays Premier League. Liverpool has won more European titles than any other English club, with five European Cups, three UEFA Cups and three European Super Cups. Liverpool last travelled to North America in 2004.

Sports Saturday: Monster Jam

Monster trucks. Monster drivers. MONSTER JAM.
That’s right, the carnival of carnage is coming to Baltimore at the end of February, setting up shop at the 1st Mariner Arena from the 25th until the 27th. Monster Jam is a live motorsport event that tours the country, allowing fans to look on as enormous trucks destroy smaller ones salvaged from scrap yards only to meet a more painful demise. Appearing in four separate installments, there will be competitions in both racing, as well as performing freestyle tricks with these monstrous machines. With names like “Grave Digger,” “Martial Law,” “Aftershock” and “Mechanical Mischief,” it’s almost impossible to turn away from the mayhem. (more…)
