The Great Blacks in Wax Museum offers a cultural and educational experience that is a unique landmark in Baltimore. The first wax museum to appear in Baltimore and the first African American was museum in the nation, the Great Blacks in Wax museum is committed solely to preserving African American history and shining a light on African ancestry and its uniqueness. More than 100 wax figures are displayed in the museum to demonstrate dramatic scenes from the lives of historical figures such as Harriet Tubman, Billie Holiday, and many more! In the early 1800s, Captain Charles Ridgley had the beautiful mansion built as his “Palace in the Wilderness”, and it later housed his nephew, Governor Charles Ridgley and his family, servants, indentured slaves, British prisoners of war, and craftsmen. The mansion is not only a historical gold mine, but an aesthetic must-see. Mary created the flag that inspired Francis Scott Key’s “Star-Spangled Banner.” Check out this home that is equipped with 19th century furniture and things.
