Food Friday: Support Bea Gaddy Family Center Inc.

Want to give back to the community? Help support the Bea Gaddy Family Center right here in Baltimore. Each week leading up to Thanksgiving, local radio station Heaven 600 hosts a food drive to raise money and canned goods for families in need during the Holiday season. Each week they hosts a live broadcast where they give out prizes and chances to win concert tickets if you come down and support this great cause. Bea Gaddy is a woman is has been helping those in need for countless years. She offers direct attention to those who need it in a hands on way. Food Friday – Restaurant Week

This summer’s Restaurant Week is in full swing until August 5th. Dozens of local restaurants are offering specially selected fixed menu dinner options for $30.12, some for $20.12. And a few places feature a lunch option for $15.12. Dinners are three courses and lunches are two-course. Participating restaurants span a number of different cuisines, including Mediterranean, Mexican, Turkish, Spanish, Japanese, and American, among others.

Owners Jessica and George Dailey take their culinary inspiration from places like Spain, Venezuela, and England, creating unique sandwiches served on fresh baguette, ciabatta, and sourdough. The menu features a number of vegetarian selections as well, including black bean burritos and veggie sandwiches with goat cheese and avocado. They also serve coffee from the sustainable Chesapeake Bay Roasting Company. Try the coconut flan, a special desert created by George Dailey’s mother, Cuqui.

Blue Water Baltimore will host a Berry Festival this Saturday, June 23rd. The festival’s main event is a berry dessert competition, and contestants are required to use berries and fruits native to Maryland. There will be food and from local vendors Big Bad Wolf and Souper Freaks food truck and drinks from New Belgium Brewery, Whole Foods, and Honest Tea. Local musicians Brooks Long and Funk Friday are scheduled to perform. Come out and enjoy live music, good food, and handmade items from local craftmakers.
