Lance Says Goodbye

Friday, May 14th, 2010 by The Professor

Lance sheds a single tear in memory of the good times in Austin and all the graduating seniors of 2010. With thanks and great hopes for your futures, WLOY says goodbye to Eric “Hans” Sappington, Rich “The DJ” Rodrigues, Jeff “The X is Silent” Malone, Mike “The Red” Mennis, Jenna Mercadante, Brittany Sigler and Heather Doyle. We also wonder why only the guys got dorky nicknames.

You’re all leaving on a high note as Club of the Year! Not a bad way to go out. Congratulations and all the best for the future!! You will be missed. Well, maybe not Eric, but the rest of you certainly will be. Lance reminds Hans that what happens in Austin stays in Austin, unless you’re dumb enough to leave photos behind… which will be very helpful when soliciting alumni donations 😉

Nightsbridge In-Studio Interview

Wednesday, May 5th, 2010 by The Professor

The guys from Nightsbridge (including WLOY Alumni David “Mr. Fabulous” Gregory ’06) swung by WLOY for a sit-down with Eric Sappington before their triumphant stomping of the stage at The Recher.  Their premiere show there crushed the other bands on the bill.  Some simply hung their heads in shame in the crowd, while others quietly drifted off to new jobs selling funnel cakes at traveling fairs, anything to avoid playing music again.

Win DRAKE Tickets Friday!

Wednesday, April 21st, 2010 by The Professor

Ok, so Drake didn’t make it here for the Fall Concert. It’s cool, we solved that. How about a pair of tickets to see Drake, K-OS and Francis & The Lights down at Pier Six, May 5th FOR FREE? If you missed his performance at the 2010 Grammy Awards where he stole the stage from Lil Wayne and Eminem, then you might not get the big picture just yet. But maybe you caught that he broke the Billboard Hot 100 with 2 songs in the top 10 in the same week? Did you know that Drake was playing at Pier Six? Rich the DJ will have your tickets to win during his live broadcast in front of Boulder Gardens on Friday this week. Be there between 11a-1p to get your FREE Ritas and see if you can read the furthest in the Dr. Suess classic Fox In Socks to win your tickets.

We have our winner: Caitlin Stein! But what a great bunch of competitors. No one thought that this would get to a page 32 TIE! During the tiebreaker Caitlin pulled out the big win. Take that Tweetle Beetles!

WLOY Giving Away Loyola Dining Tickets for 4.21

Tuesday, April 20th, 2010 by WLOY Staff

Loyola Dining is hosting the second Slow Food Dinner as a prelude to Earth Day tomorrow, April 21, 2010 in the Refectory from 6-9pm. WLOY is giving away free tickets to the dinner. Listen to Rich the DJ tonight from 5-7pm to win!

Slow Food is something that Father Linnane wanted to see happen on campus. Slow Food USA is a movement at colleges all over the country, usually organized by students. The Slow Food motto is “good, clean, and fair,” meaning that the food is “created with care from healthy plants and animals, is as good for the planet as it is for our bodies, and is grown and harvested with methods that have a positive impact on our local ecosystems and promotes biodiversity.”

This is a five course served dinner that seeks to promote community between students and faculty/staff/administrators. The tickets are $30 and can be purchased at Boulder, Surf’n Joe’s, or Newman C-Store. OR LISTEN IN TO Rich the DJ tonight from 5-7pm, and he’ll be giving them away!
