This Baltimore born, Nashville raised, and New York livin’ human will be at the WLOY Coffee House this week! Evan Nachimson (pronounced Knock-um-son) is influenced by Bob Marley, Bob Dylan, and John Lennon. Here at WLOY, we sense a hint of Ed Sheeran in his voice. Perfect for our Coffee House event on Thursday! Come out and enjoy some CAFE HON BREAD PUDDING while listening to some relaxing music.

Peter is a Senior at Loyola and was nice enough to bless us with his talents along with other students at last Thursday’s Open Mic Night. Shindig Fest 2014

Shindig Fest 2014
Shindig Fest was, well, quite the shindig. Seriously, I’m talking circle pits and bass so loud it could knock over a toddler. Hosted in Carroll Park, Baltimore, this music festival drew out thousands of hard rock fans to see a solid line-up, including Jane’s Addiction, Rise Against, and Gogol Bordello.

WLOY is hosting another OPEN MIC NIGHT featuring Loyola’s own, Peter Whitaker. Bring your guitars, harmonicas, ukuleles, your voices, and whatever else your talents involve! We want to hear YOU! Even if you want to keep your talents a secret, you can still come out, hang out with friends, and enjoy some good old live music. We have some Ziggy Marley tickets to raffle off as well as “I Love Lucy” tickets at The Hippodrome!

Vocals/Guitarist Dave Wentz, Bass player Tyler Wheeler, and Drummer Paul Mercer will be coming this Thursday, October 2nd for the free WLOY Coffeehouse Series. Don’t know what to expect? BML creates melodic, expressive songs that feature bright chords and upbeat, jazz-influenced rhythms. Last year they made an unforgettable Coffeehouse performance performing songs from their newly released EP Swords. Stop by, 9-11pm at the 3rd Floor Reading Room in the student College Center. (more…)

Chessie Jam is Jamin’ Out This Weekend

Calling all kids and grown ups that are young at heart! Chessie Jam is coming to Pier Six in Baltimore! On Saturday October 4, the children’s music festival, Chessie Jam, will be hosting kid friendly music and fun activities. There will be free face painting from 12:00-2:00pm, an instrument petting zoo, a photo-booth, a moon-bounce, tie-dying, a storybook village, and much more! These fun things are paired with even more fun music. The featured bands include the winners of “Best Musical Album for Children,” Milkshake, and even Yo Gabba Gabba’s Biz Markie!
Join WLOY and participate in a live recording of our award winning program, “What Happens Next?” Running since 2009, this children’s program has helped promote better reading, writing, and communication skills as well as help expand imaginations. We provide the beginning of the story, but our participates figure out “what happens next!” WLOY will be promoting this program as well as working with kids to write and record their stories at Chessie Jam! Come out and enjoy some music and fun this Saturday!

Late Night Concert: Wendel Patrick & Max Bent

Wanna get schooled by an awesome musician? Loyola professor, Kevin Gift, will be performing under the stage name Wendel Patrick at our Late Night Concert this Thursday. To get you pumped up before Wendel Patrick, beat-boxer, Max Bent, will be performing. Expect to see some sick beat-boxing when they join forces. Come out to see Loyola’s own blast some original hip-hop jams!
When: This Thursday from 9:00-11:00pm
Where: McGuire Hall
Why: Because who doesn’t like to see your teacher rock out and hear some beat-boxing on a fabulous Thursday night!
