WLOY will be hosting an Open Mic Night as a part of our Coffee House Series, now featuring coffee. Come by to showcase your talent, encourage a friend to sing along and perhaps woo the person of your desires just in time for Valentine’s Day with a love song! Ed Sheeran and Etta James covers are recommended, along with heart felt originals. So stop by the Reading Room from 8-10PM this Thursday for good tunes from your peers, a relaxing vibe and real, 100% Arabica Coffee!

This February, come to Hamden and join Gallery 788 for its exhibit of renowned photographer, Martha Cooper’s, award winning work, Sowebo/ Soweto. The show illustrates Southwest Baltimore (Sowebo) and its connection to Southwest Townships (Soweto) in South Africa through breathtaking photography. In her photos, Cooper expresses the striking similarities between the two areas and the issues that occur there. The gallery will leave surely leave you in awe. The Mayor’s Christmas Parade!

THE BEST WAY TO SPREAD CHRISTMAS IS SINGING LOUD FOR ALL TO HEAR! Another way to get in the spirit is coming to the Mayor’s Christmas Parade in Hampden on December 7th. WLOY will be there spreading cheer and handing out some wonderful kids sweatshirts! That’s right KIDS SWEATSHIRTS! We are prepared to keep merry and warm on Sunday! Come out and see our van in special Christmas attire. I can’t tell you what the WLOY van will look like on December 7th because that will ruin the Christmas magic. You will just have to come and be surprised! It will be like an early Christmas present from us, WLOY!

FINAL Late Night Event: 3PM and GWB.com

THIS SEMESTER IS SLOWLY COMING TO A CLOSE. This means we only have one Late Night event left! WLOY is having two local artists that will make McGuire the place to be this Thursday! 3PM, founded in the summer of 2012, is inspired by Blink-182, Green Day, and Yellowcard. That combo will make any true pop-punk fan be excited for this show. 3PM even have experience with the famous Warped Tour. Wanna get more excited? GWB.com is a Loyola based band that features our VERY OWN STAFF MEMBER, Brandon. This college band is a up and coming hip-hop band will keep you dancing all night. Come out this Thursday and get your groove on!

This Week’s Coffeehouse: Angela Sheik

Angela Sheik will be appearing at Thursday night’s Coffeehouse! She’s worth a listen (and maybe more than just one). Angela is gifted in instruments such as the autoharp, theremin, and the flute. She has worked with a producer that has help fuel her creative talents and also is a fellow electronic fusion artist. You can imagine how interesting and exciting it is to watch her preform. Her debut EP, “Songs from the Red Box,” won multiple awards such as the grand prize for BOSS Loop Station 2011 U.S. National Finals, winner of the Philadelphia Songwriter Project Competition and twice voted Female Artist of the Year at 93.7 WSTW Hometown Heroes! She’s even opened for bands like Neon Trees. WLOY is happy to have her for our late night event!

WLOY Late Night: Mark Hopkins and the Hotel 11/13

Mark Hopkins and the Hotel are coming to our next Late Night Event this Thursday. Make sure to “check in” to McGuire Hall to see this band play live. (See what I did there?) This Baltimore native is coming to Loyola to play for YOU! If you love G.Love, then Mark Hopkins and the Hotel will be music to your ears, literally. Snacks will be there to keep you refreshed. But, the music might be enough to keep you awake and happy. We’ll also have tickets for Baltimore Soundstage shows that you can win!

WLOY Coffeehouse: Matt Hutchison 11/6

As a child, Matt Hutchison fell in love with The Beatles. He even spent a few years in England when he was younger. Matt’s love went as far as thinking he was Paul McCartney! (He used to sign his school papers as Paul McCartney.) Now, he’s bloomed into a wonderful artist that will be at the WLOY Coffeehouse THIS THURSDAY! If you want a little taste of what his music is like, Matt just released four free streaming tracks from his upcoming album, “Three Minute Man”, that will be released November 30.

Let’s Do the Time Warp, Again!

It’s that time of year, again! The Rocky Horror Picture Show is our next Late Night event. This is a night to get truly in the mood for Halloween activities. WLOY will be holding a ticket raffle as well as a COSTUME CONTEST! Come dressed in your best costume and dance the Time Warp. WLOY will be waiting with snacks and fun for your Thursday night before the “Halloweekend” begins! We’ve already got in the spirit here with our Rocky Horror photoshoot.

Evan Nachimson (pronounced Knock-um-son) is influenced by Bob Marley, Bob Dylan, and John Lennon. Here at WLOY, we sense a hint of Ed Sheeran in his voice. Perfect for our Coffee House event on Thursday! Come out and enjoy some CAFE HON BREAD PUDDING while listening to some relaxing music.
