Goo Goo Dolls Interview

The Goo Goo Dolls rocked Loyola’s campus over Halloween weekend, 10.29.10 to be exact, and luckily I managed to grab a quick interview with the band before the show as they relaxed in McGuire Hall. Half of McGuire was converted into the band’s dressing room, complete with fifty-inch TVs, leather couches, and the overwhelming stench of crab cakes. After adapting to the smell, I sat down at a table with the trio and talked about the new album, the song writing process, and the story behind “Iris”. You can listen to the interview mp3 below!

We Are Scientists Interview

Last month Ryan Nisley and Taylor DeBoer had the good fortune of talking with Keith Murray of the band We Are Scientists. The band played a show at the Metro Gallery downtown, so the three of us walked across the street and chatted inside the Charles Street theater. Our conversation took us from the release of the band’s most recent album to the concept of rock songs transformed into European soccer chants by football hooligans. During the show the band let loose with an in-your-face Brit pop attitude that was all about having fun. Keith and Chris, the bassist, joked between songs and interacted with the crowd to create an intimate atmosphere. If you haven’t heard of We Are Scientists, check out their newest album, Barbara that was released over the summer.

Bernice Johnson Reagon interview

For over four decades Bernice Johnson Reagon has been a major cultural voice for freedom and justice. An African American woman’s voice, a child of Southwest Georgia, a voice raised in song, born in the struggle against racism in America during the Civil Rights Movement of the 50s and 60s, she is a composer, songleader, scholar and producer.

The Love Leighs Interview

Mobtown Couch host, Karyn Oliver managed to get the Austin, Texas based band, The Love Leighs into WLOY Studios on 8/19/10 for an interview and performance. The Love Leighs combine the songwriting styles and ukulele strums of Raina Leigh and Jessica Leigh with the side-man stardom of Jimmie Dreams to bring you the twisted, delightful, dark and dazzling jazz, blues and twang you’ve always longed for.

Interpol & Twin Tigers Concert

I was first introduced to Interpol in 2004 when I heard their album, Antics. I became fond of the band after listening to the album, but I admit I lost faith in them after Our Love to Admire (2007) received less praise than Antics. However, I think I need to revisit the album, now that I found a new appreciation for Interpol. I had always heard great things about Interpol’s live show, but it was difficult to ignore all the hype and avoid preconceived notions. I expected a great show and that is exactly what I got. Their sound filled the venue, reinforced by a brilliant light show. What impressed me was the balance between the vocals and instrument sound levels. The lyrics were clearly distinguishable over the rest of the band, not to mention that Paul Bank’s voice was perfect.
