Album of the Week: Bennett Coast – “Where Are You Going?”

Bennett Coast, an up-and-coming musician and filmmaker from Los Angeles, released his latest album, “Where Are You Going?” Born and raised in Northern California, the 22-year-old artist draws inspiration from the differences between youth and maturity and the constant flux of life. Bennett explores these themes, as well as the melancholy of leaving one’s hometown, in his self-taught musical and visual works.

I’ve been excited about Bennett’s new project for a while now. He has a confident awareness of his talents and displays them in both his videography and music. He released the track, “Bender” earlier this year, which has been popularly received by many fans. “Bender” is just one of the songs on his 6-track album, each being better than the last.

“Where Are You Going?” is honestly one of my favorite albums from this summer’s music lineup. Bennett Coast knows how to blend lightheartedness and depth in his tracks, and I can’t get enough of it. The opening track, “On My Side,” sets the tone for a whole spectrum of emotions that the album touches on, and the final track, “Now I Know You,” really packs a punch. Bennett’s soundscapes transport you to these dreamy, nostalgic spaces, that remind you of the calm, uncertainty of adolescence. 10/10 album!
