WLOY presents “The Encore,” where we spotlight our favorite artists that have visited the station. This week: Matt Nathanson!

Matt Nathanson is an American singer-songwriter who has made a name for himself with his distinctive mix of folk and rock. Beginning his career in the early ’90s, he’s best known for hits like the platinum-selling “Come On Get Higher” and “Giants.” Nathanson’s music is all about emotional depth and catchy guitar riffs, which have kept fans hooked for decades.

WLOY had the chance to chat with Nathanson three times, in 2003, 2008, right after his standout performance at LoyolaPalooza, and 2011. These days, he’s still very much in the music scene, recently dropping his single “Map At The Mall” in July 2024—his first release since 2018. However, “Come On Get Higher” is so iconic, his music will always stand out to me. Nathanson’s new track shows he’s still got it, keeping that connection with fans that built his fanbase over 20 years ago.
