WLOY presents “The Encore,” where we spotlight our favorite artists that have visited the station. This week: Bitty McLean

Bitty McLean, born Delroy Easton McLean, is a British reggae and lovers’ rock singer best known for his early ’90s hits like “It Keeps Rainin’ (Tears from My Eyes),” which reached No. 2 in the UK. He began his career performing with local sound systems and later joined UB40 as an engineer and producer, sometimes lending his vocals to their tracks. His notable covers, including “Dedicated to the One I Love,” cemented his place in the UK music scene during the mid-1990s.

Over the years, McLean has collaborated with iconic reggae figures like Sly & Robbie. In 2018, he dropped “Love Restart,” showcasing unreleased tracks and extended mixes, further expanding his catalog. Following the passing of Robbie Shakespeare in 2021, Bitty has been working on a tribute album, which is expected to highlight the influence and legacy of the late bassist, scheduled for release in 2022.

In 2019, WLOY had the privilege of interviewing Bitty McLean, where he spoke about his continued passion for reggae and the deep connection he feels to the music. He shared insights into his upcoming tribute album to Robbie Shakespeare and reflected on the importance of keeping reggae’s soulful rhythms alive. Bitty remains active, balancing performances with new projects, ensuring his sound continues to resonate with fans worldwide.
