Staff Picks: Max’s Top 5
March 26th, 2025 by Liz Kosik
Hi, I’m Max, the Production Director at WLOY, and here are my top 5 songs of the week!
1. “Break on Through (To the Other Side)” – The Doors. These last couple of months have been moving pretty quickly, with each week going by in the blink of an eye. But ever since I watched “When You’re Strange” (a documentary about The Doors) over winter break, I’ve had virtually all of their songs stuck in my head. Robby Krieger’s clean and punchy guitar riff in paired with the Bossa Nova styled drumbeat continues to play on repeat in my head. I just can’t get enough of it!
2. “A Horse with No Name” – America. After seeing the 70’s rock/folk band live a couple weeks ago with a couple of friends, I’ve been riding the post-concert high ever since! The entrancing melody paired with the isolating lyrics never ceases to put me in a hypnotic trance. What a hypnotizing and alluring song.
3. “Things Can Only Get Better” – Howard Jones. A couple of weeks ago, I got to see both ABC and Howard Jones in concert with my dad. One of the songs that stuck with me most and has helped me get through some rough days is Howard Jones’ positive anthem. It’s a catchy synth-pop song, and easy to love!
4. “Digital Love” – Daft Punk. As a huge fan of both music and music production, I absolutely ADORE Daft Punk. Their ability to effortlessly sample and repurpose timeless classics is unmatched. Sampling the 1979 song, “I Love You More”, the French Duo created an absolute masterpiece that I can’t stop listening to. I absolutely love the sound of synths and electronics and it’s currently #3 in my “On Repeat” Spotify playlist!
5. “Rebel Yell” – Billy Idol. Inspired by Jim Morrison, Mick Jagger, and so many more music legends, Idol’s work truly encapsulates punk and new wave all while having a unique flair. I absolutely love how bad*ss the song sounds and the overall punk and rock and roll vibe to it. It’s one of my favorite shower songs as well!
