Staff Picks: Gen’s Top 5
March 12th, 2025 by Liz Kosik
Hi, I’m Genevieve, a music librarian at WLOY, and here are my top 5 songs of the week!
1. “Shelf” – Jonas Brothers: Honestly, I feel like this week is still kind of a blur—it’s going by so fast! But for the past two days, I’ve been playing this song on repeat. I actually saw it live, and for those who know, know that when Joe sings the first verse, it’s the best part!
2. “Be Mine” – Infinite: I often listen to songs I grew up with, and recently, I started listening to this one again. I ended up falling in love with it even more—if that’s even possible! A rhythm game I used to play had this song, and naturally, I got hooked on it all over again.
3. “Material Girl,” “Express Yourself,” and “Vogue” – Madonna: Okay, technically, three songs are tied for this spot, haha. These classics have made their way back into my playlist, and I love it. If I had to pick a favorite, it would be “Material Girl,” but honestly, all three are iconic.
4. “Never Say Never” – The Fray: The wave of happiness I feel when I hear this song is insane. I heard it a lot growing up, but now, I associate it with The Vampire Diaries since it was featured so many times. This song reminds me of Stefan and Lexi, the best friendship in that show, and I’m taking that to the grave.
5. “Mr. Saxobeat” – Alexandra Stan: Another super addicting song! I’m sorry, but if I go to a club and the music doesn’t sound like this… I’m not dancing. This is the kind of EDM I could rarely get tired of, and I’m the type of person who listens to a song on repeat.
