Lawrence is a brother and sister music group from New York City. Their music consists of a mix of Soul Pop with a mix of Funk and RNB. On August 12th, 2023, the duo began touring with the Jonas Brothers, gaining more attention. In their recent song “23” We witness an immersive blend of Soul Pop and Funk. Despite the song’s upbeat nature, its meaning is quite the opposite. “23” is about a 23-year-old reminiscing about her recent breakup with a lover. The age of 23 was supposed to be the best year of their lives, but instead, they were left with a broken heart and sorrow.

The track “23” features instruments, including piano, drums, guitar, and woodwinds. The song is filled with many twists and turns, with adlibs scattered all around the song to give it a full band sound. With the dramatic build-up in the bridge and catchy chorus, listeners can’t help but feel happy despite the sad meaning. The lyrics might evoke nostalgia for those who have had similar past relationships. There was a smoothness to Gracie Lawernce’s vocals while also being strong. The instrumentation and background abilities do not overshadow the main vocals, which are the song’s main focus. “23” by Lawernce is a classic break up song that listeners can add to their playlist.
