SOTW: “Dang” by Rainbow Kitten Surprise

Rating: 8.5/10
RIYL: Mt. Joy, Royel Otis, Wet Leg
Rainbow Kitten Surprise is a band that combines genres such as indie rock, folk, and pop to create pieces with deep emotional lyricism. Fronted by singer Ela Melo, the band has created a reputation for creative live shows and songs that integrate vulnerability and an explosion of energy. “Dang” is their single released through Atlantic Records, and has truly stuck out to me as one of their more energetic pieces.
Musically, “Dang” uses a variety of instruments, including riffs of a guitar and a chorus that gives off an energy making listeners want to shout it out a car window. While it was released in the summer and definitely emanates a more warm energy, this song has stuck out to me this winter more for its playful lyrics. The lyrics to this song are carefree while also representing the struggle of deeper emotions within a relationship.
Check out “Dang” if you love other songs by Rainbow Kitten Surprise such as the well-known and forever popular “It’s Called: Freefall” and other indie-leaning artists who use upbeat tempos and creative lyricism to spread heartfelt and emotional messages.
