1. 1959: “The Day the Music Died” – Buddy Holly, Ritchie Valens, and The Big Bopper die in a plane crash.
2. 1970: Paul McCartney records his solo song “Maybe I’m Amazed.”
3. 1973: Elton John has his first No. 1 album in the U.S. with Don’t Shoot Me I’m Only the Piano Player.
4. 1986: The first induction ceremony for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame is held in New York City.
5. 1997: Elton John’s “Candle in the Wind 1997” becomes the biggest-selling single of all time.
