This year’s Battle of the Bands was bursting with energy, hype, and pure fun. It’s always one of my favorite events to work because every time, without fail, I’m hit with that full body frisson that only great live music can deliver. The night kicked off with The Last Arrival, a five-piece group of Loyola students: Chris Saia on guitar and backing vocals, Sam Mejia on drums, Patrick Hart on guitar and lead vocals, Michael Moseley on piano, and Edward on bass. Their performance was nothing short of epic. Their setlist took the crowd on a ride with emotional highs, introspective lows, all tied together by their seamless harmony. Their sound evoked the feel of The Backseat Lovers— classic indie rock vibes that were both nostalgic and fresh, fun and comforting.

Next up was Psychedelia, a duo made up of Nick and Stuart. Their music felt like being suspended in the air. It was a dreamy, immersive, and vibey performance in the best way. It’s the kind of sound you put on when you’re in a relaxed, almost altered state of mind— like the soundtrack to a slow, starry night…think Tame Impala. The crowd swayed, eyes closed, just riding the waves of their sonic landscape.

Then came Daviid and The Daydreamerz, and they completely lit up the stage. Their chemistry was undeniable. Every band member had a moment to shine, and you could feel how much they genuinely enjoyed playing together, it was like watching a family in their element. Their upbeat tunes and infectious rhythms had everyone moving, with hooks that got stuck in your head in the best way possible. Daviid’s flow was straight-up magical. He doesn’t just perform, he owns the stage, transforming every inch of it into his personal playground. And the rest of the band matched that energy perfectly. Jkeys on keys, Jose shredding on guitar, Makai spinning on the turntables, Ryan laying it down on bass, 4K keeping the beat alive on drums, and of course, Daviid leading the charge—it was a masterclass in collective charisma.

They’re opening for Aminé this weekend at Loyolapalooza, and I couldn’t be more excited. Watching their energy merge with his is going to be something special—two genre-bending acts sharing the same stage? That’s a recipe for magic. Daviid and The Daydreamerz have a presence that demands attention and pairing that with Aminé’s charisma and sharp flow is bound to create a dynamic, unforgettable show. If their performance at Battle of the Bands was any indication, they’re more than ready to hold their own—and maybe even steal the spotlight. I’m counting down the days.
