Super City in-studio
Tuesday, October 10th, 2023 by The Professor
Join us today at 1 when local dance-pop-indie-new wave-party band Super City jumps into the studio for a live Studio Seizure. We’ll be chatting with Dan and Greg ahead of their 3rd album release show this weekend at the Ottobar (10/14) with guests Outcalls and Manners, Manners. Early tracks from In the Midnight Room are fantastic and wildly diverse in their energy. Super City is great on recordings but their live show is what pulls people back every time. The danceable high-energy pop sounds with great harmonies, and a synchronized stage show make them a blast live. We don’t understand why they aren’t already on the national stage but we hope they remember all the little people when they are!

Volcano Chronicles Goes FM!
Tuesday, September 26th, 2023 by The Professor
We are sad to say that the great Volcano Chronicles show is leaving WLOY (hopefully temporarily) but we are also thrilled as to why. Daniel Jones, our host in Hawai’i, is moving it to a local Hawaiian FM station! You can now catch it on KNKR 96.1FM in Kohala on the big island of Hawai’i! Daniel worked very hard to build the show over three years and 134 episodes, starting with a Quarantine Takeover in July 2020. Along the way we got some fantastic artist interviews, great insights into nearly 50 years of playing live rock and meeting incredible musicians, and a ton of great music. With the horrible tragedy in Lahaina it makes sense for locals to support locals and we know that KNKR will be a great home for the show. Watch for updates as we expect more news on this soon. In the meanwhile MAHALO Daniel and Aloha for now.

Alumni Spotlight: Anthony Medina (2013)
Tuesday, August 8th, 2023 by Liz Kosik
Anthony Medina, a graduate of Loyola University in 2013, reflects on his career, life, and time spent at Loyola. Medina shares some updates on his life while cherishing his WLOY days.
Q: Can you tell us about your show at WLOY? (name and theme, genre of music)
A: I co-hosted a show on WLOY with one of my best friends, Jeff Poulos AKA Dj Pool Party Poulos. We called the show Know Your Role after one of Dwayne “The
Rock” Johnson’s famous catchphrases from the late ’90s. I’ve always been a diehard professional wrestling fan and Jeff and I bonded over our love of some of the all-time greats. I actually think he came up with the name. We played classic rock and had gimmicks like top 5 lists and running jokes. And at the end of every show, we’d tell someone that needed to hear to know their role. All the bits and banter and promos were such a fun and creative outlet for us. But it was really just another excuse to spend time with my friend. And I think our friendship was the cohesive element of the show that made it work. People picked up on our connection and friendship and I think it made those who listened smile.
