What: Hipster Jazz Night

Sick of all that old, mainstream jazz that everybody has heard of? Then come out to Joe Squared and check out some new jazz artists at Hipster Jazz Night! But this great event is not limited to the underground jazz of Baltimore. The Beautiful Mess, a New York based jazz artist will be bringing his experience on the trombone to Joe Squared to perform his hipster sounds. These two artists, in addition to some more groups, will having you tapping your feet to the sound of new, more exciting jazz. Oh! And make sure to grab you sax or kazoo for the chance of an impromptu jam session to end the fabulous night!

Explore Baltimore: Five and Dime Ale House

Tuesday, February 21st, 2017 by WLOY Staff

What: Five and Dime Ale House

Where: 901 W 36th St

When: Mon.-Thurs. 11am-12am, Friday-Sunday 11am-2am

With modern twist to the old diner and tavern lifestyle, Five and Dime Ale House is a great place to grab an amazing dinner with friends. Their menu features a little bit of everything, including tacos, fish and chips, mussels, or burgers so everyone will be able to get what they’re in the mood for. My personal favorite is the fig and prosciutto sandwich which has the tastiest balsamic vinegar I have ever had and is loaded with tons of prosciutto. But even if you don’t try this favorite, one of their many other delicious dishes is guaranteed to exceed your expectation. The great food isn’t the only draw to this restaurant though. Five and Dime also has a nice atmosphere for catching a game and a meal after work. With it’s warm lighting and rustic-chic styling, you will be instantly relaxed when you walk into Five and Dime, and that relaxation will only continue as you enjoy your food and watch a sport of choice on one of their TVs. So, whether you go for the tastes, the variety, the atmosphere, or just because I said to, Five and Dime will make every penny worth it.

Explore Baltimore: Brown Rice Korean Grill

Tuesday, February 7th, 2017 by WLOY Staff

What: Brown Rice Korean Grill

Where: 2404 N Charles St

When: Monday-Saturday, 11am-9pm

What do fast food and fresh, healthy food have in common? Nothing, you think? That’s what I would think too if I didn’t know about Brown Rice Korean Grill. Focusing on fresh and tasty, Brown Rice serves several traditional Korean dishes like dumplings, Kimchi stew, and scallion pancakes.

Despite this already delicious menu, this restaurant’s most popular dish is Bibimap. Like a Chipotle for Korean food, Brown Rice has tons of fresh ingredients out for you to pick what you want in order to customize your Bibimap bowl. With meats from tofu to squid to pork, all the veggies you can dream of, and tons of classic sauces like mango sauce, soy sauce, and Deonjang that Bibimap bowl combos are endless!
