Tourism Tuesdays: Dam Jam 2012

Dam Jam 2012 is a celebration of the region’s drinking water reservoirs. Learn how we obtain and process our drinking water and the responsibilities we all share in protecting our water supply. Events include live music, historical reenactments, native wildlife presentations and more! Bring your chairs, blankets, and picnic baskets to spend the day. Activities will take place both at Loch Raven Reservoir and at Baltimore County’s Cromwell Valley Park. Free shuttle buses will run continuously between the two sites.

Museum Mondays: Betascape

Betascape is a weekend-long exploratorium for artists and technologists who love to work at the intersection of art and technology. Get inspired with two days of lectures and hands-on learning and creating. Experts from across the East Coast will share their stories and expertise. Sports Saturdays: Ravens vs. Eagles

Sunday’s match up between the Baltimore Ravens and Philadelphia Eagles bring together two teams that have much to prove this season. Andy Reid is on the hot seat as he needs to bring more to the table than his normal playoff appearance followed by their early exit.
For Baltimore, a team that has lost a huge asset in Terrell Suggs, this team will need to prove that they can still match up to most NFL teams defensively. Their age is beginning to make an appearance in their linebacker core and secondary set. Their age has already made an appearance in their offensive line.
What does that mean though in a match up between the Ravens and the Eagles?

Race to Embrace Independence

Lace up your sneakers for the 4th annual Marian House Race to Embrace Independence 5K and One-Mile Family Fun Run. This year, participants can also enjoy the race village, featuring food, entertainment, and activities for the entire family. The race raises critical funds for Marian House, an independent nonprofit that provides housing and support services for women who are homeless or suffering from addiction. Sports Saturdays: Baltimore Orioles and New York Yankees Match Up

America’s past time, Baseball, is a perfect way to begin and end any weekend. Why not take some friends against their will (no one condones such treatment at WLOY but if necessary, why not? They will thank you in the long run) and go see the Baltimore Orioles take on the Bronx Bombers, New York Yankees?
Now, there has to be some incentive besides the point that friends should be able to spend time together no matter what and wherever they are. Also, baseball in itself is a way to bond with others while participating in something that oozes Americana. But reality sinks in and more is required. That is why the Baltimore Orioles are offering amazing promotions to get families and friends to come to Oriole Park at Camden Yards. (more…)

Theater Thursday – Modern Times

Tonight is the Charles Theater’s final showing of Charlie Chaplin’s classic lampoon of the industrialized world, Modern Times. The rise of the ‘talkies’ caused Chaplin, a silent-era hero, to become disillusioned. He came back in 1936 with this film, a satire of the industrialized surge of technology and the sound film itself. It’s essentially a silent film, though Chaplin used synchronized sound effects and jumbled overdubbed talking. Don’t miss this chance to see one of Chaplin’s most popular, and most thoughtful, films in on of Baltimore’s best specialty theaters.
