Sports Saturdays: A Weekend of Women’s Volleyball

When: Friday November 1st, 7:00PM; Saturday November 2nd, 4:00PM

The Loyola Women’s Volleyball Team will be hosting a weekend of conference volleyball to kick off the month of November. The Hounds kicked off a long month of conference games in the Patriot League with a very respectable 1-2 record, slowly working their way back into contention.

The last month of the season presents a lot of opportunities for home match-ups at Reitz Arena. The Hounds currently find themselves in the middle of the pack in the Patriot League, with a chance for a couple of statement matches at home.

First, on Friday November 1st, they will play host to the Lafayette Leopards, who currently occupy the basement of the Patriot League for women’s volleyball. The Hounds then have an opportunity to make a big statement in a home match against the American Eagles, who are at the top of the conference with an almost flawless record on the season.

Start off your November right by coming out and supporting the Hounds at Reitz Arena!

Food Fridays: The Lunch Box

The Lunch Box, where breakfast us served all day and the service is superb. Looking for delicious french toast at 1 in the afternoon? Then head to the Lunch Box. Looking for an overstuffed sandwich, then head to the Lunch Box. Located in Hampden, the Lunch Box offers great food, variety and great prices. They don’t have a website of their own, but they are on urban spoon, where a full menu is listed and raving reviews.

Theatre Thursday: Death and the Maiden

Where: 817 St. Paul Street, Baltimore, MD

Death and the Maiden is the gripping tale with only three characters and an ending that will chill your blood. Filled with plot twists and horrifying details, Death and the Maiden tells the story of a husband and wife and a stranger, who happens to be a doctor. The wife, Paulina, was kidnapped many years ago by a doctor and was brutally tortured while being held captive. One day, when someone with the same voice as her capture appears at her door, the story unfolds and the audience is forced to answer questions no one often thinks about, while trying to solve the mystery of who the man at the door really is. It is a play that isn’t to be missed and tickets are available online.

Wacky Wednesdays: Cronuts come to Baltimore

Crossaints + Donuts = CRONUTS. This magical combination of flavors began in New York City and has made it’s way down to our city and we are very excited about it. Regi’s stated on Facebook that “We’ve got CRONUTS. A homemade croissant donut stuffed with fresh strawberry & vanilla pudding. WHOA!” If you have a sweet tooth and love donuts and/or croissants, then you should try a cronut. Head down to Regi’s and get yours!

Looking for some fresh, local produce from people you can trust, and may even call you neighbor? Then head on down to the 32nd Street Farmers Market every Saturday all year long! Apples, melons and pears are in season in October as are many vegetables including, but not limited to, broccoli, eggplant, cucumbers and pumpkins! The 32nd Street Farmers Market is a great way to get delicious produce year round while supporting local farmers and getting to know your city a little better. So stop by the market for all your seasonal produce needs.

Museum Mondays: 13th Annual Baltimore’s Great Architecture Lecture Series at Homewood

Where: Homewood Museum, 3400 N. Charles Street, Baltimore, MD

When: October 21, 26 & 28 

Homewood Museum, operated by JHU, is hosting a lecture series with topics about the turn of the 19th century in Baltimore, and is set at Homewood due to the Carroll Family’s former residence there over three decades.  The lectures will focus namely on the Washington Monument and the city’s Battle Monument, and the series will include a site visit on October 26th. These lectures and visit will be culturally rich and plan to enlighten the community and beyond about the history present within our city. Tickets for non-members start at $12 per event and more pricing is available online.

Sports Saturdays: Inaugural Baltimore Basketball Classic 2013

October 17th, the Washington Wizards will take on the New York Knicks at the Baltimore Arena in the 1st Baltimore Basketball Classic! This basketball classic began in tribute to the 50th anniversary of the Baltimore Bullets and B’More is pleased to bring professional basketball back into the city. This marks the Wizards first game in Baltimore since 1999 and the team brings along Carmelo Anthony, a Towson Catholic high school graduate. Both teams look forward to facing off on neutral ground this October, and you won’t want to miss the 1st Basketball Classic Baltimore has ever offered.

Theatre Thursdays: WPOC Girls With Guitars

ONE NIGHT ONLY. Baltimore’s WPOC  93.1 presents Jennifer Nettles (of Sugarland), Sheryl Crow, Kellie Pickler and Cassadee Pope for an evening of music, laughter and awareness. $5 of every ticket sold will benefit the Susan G. Komen Foundation in Maryland, which supports breast cancer patients and continues to research cancer as they fight for a cure. Tickets begin at $35 and VIP tickets with a pre-show reception beginning at 5:30pm are also available.  The artists are excited to share their music and lives with the people of Baltimore in an effort to come together and beat breast cancer.

If you attend this infamous ghost walk, you are in for a little fright. The Mount Vernon GhostWalk can provide all you are, and are not, looking for regarding the history of Mount Vernon. With hidden spirits around every corner, it may just give you the scare you’ve been needing. In the cultural center of the city, you will be made aware of those who have checked into Belvedere, and those who never got to check out. You will walk past the beautiful homes of the area and the locals who still keep tabs on their former residences. With a slight scare and a lot of history, the tour will not disappoint.

Tickets are available online for $13 and the tours typically lasts one hour.
