Inside every mummy is a story waiting to be told. Head on down to the Maryland Science Center to view the wide, compelling collection from Asia, Oceania, South America, Europe and Ancient Egypt dating back 6,500 years! This amazing collection bridges the gap between the past and the present across seven countries. Explore how mummies are created, where they come from and who they were.

Sports Saturdays: Basketball Home Opener

Fans rejoice! Greyhounds regular season basketball is officially back for another season! The Greyhounds have their first home game of the season this coming Saturday against a very familiar opponent, Fairfield.

This season marks Loyola’s first season as a part of the Patriot League, but it wouldn’t be a season of Loyola basketball without playing a familiar MAAC rival.

The Hounds hope to have a great start coming home for their first game at Reitz Arena of the 2013-2014 season. The Hounds start their conference schedule in January, but have four home games before the conference schedule starts.

Think you can beat the all time record of 18 pancakes in one hour? Head on down to Pete’s Grille on November 22nd for Baltimore’s famed pancake eating contest 7am. There is a Women and Men’s division and the all-time winner gets free Pete’s Grille for as long as they hold their record! Now your chance to prove the haters wrong and become an amateur competitive eater.

Sign-up now at the restaurant Monday through Friday between 7am and 1pm.

Theatre Thursdays: War Requiem

Where: The Meyerhoff on Thursday and Friday and Strathmore on Saturday

When: November 14th-16th

This War Requiem is the experience through Benjamin Britten’s eyes of two world wars through powerful music. The performance is conducted by Marin Alsop and preformed by the Peabody’s Children Chorus. It’s a part of the University of Maryland’s concert choir and is sure to provoke deep emotions and bring you back into a different time. War Requiem features two orchestras, two choruses and a number of show stopping soloists as we journey alongside Britten in his musical masterpiece.

Tickets start at $29 for regular civilians, but they are offering a reduced price of $25 for those who have served in our armed forces. Be sure to check out their website for more information on the concerts as well as how to purchase tickets.

Do you enjoy exotic animals? Do you enjoy running? Why not combine your two true loves at the Zoo Zoom 2013 at the Maryland Zoo? Get in a brisk 8k run or maybe just a mile family run with all your fellow animal lovers November 24th. The 8k is unfortunately sold out (register early next year!), but there are still slots available for the 1 mile family and kid run. And you can always spectate and cheer on your friends as they race towards the finish line past the lions, tigers and bears… oh my!

These people also helped gain civil rights and affected the music, art, literature and politics of their time. You can take the tour at your leasuire. Take this opportunity to learn about the great city of Baltimore and all the ways it was shape, in addition to ways Baltimore helped shape America.

Sports Saturdays: Loyola Soccer Winding Down

With the Fall sports season coming to an end, the Loyola men’s soccer team will be ending their season in the next week.

The Hounds will be ending their 2013 season at home against conference rival Lafayette, with a chance to end the season on a high at Ridley Athletic Complex in front of the home Loyola fans. Even though their conference schedule didn’t turn out exactly as planned this year, ending the season with a win at home sure would feel good.

Taharka’s isn’t your average neighborhood ice cream shop. In fact, they aren’t a shop at all! They have a unique business model; run by college aged young adults who’s main aim is to give back to the community and maintain social consciousness, Taharka Bros. provides premium ice cream with a higher purpose. They’re ice creams and sorbets are placed in various restaurant’s, dessert shops and ice cream shops across Baltimore. Taharka’s mission is to make things happen with ice cream as their medium. WIth social justice in mind, they offer a wide array of ice cream and sorbet flavors favorable for any pallet.

Dance of the Holy Ghost tells the story of a blues man, Oscar, who is haunted by his memories and his grandson, who trying to bring him back into the present. The show features Denise Burse of Tyler Perry’s House of Payne, and Michael Genet, who has made multiple appearances in broadway hits such as Hamlet and A Few Good Men. As the story progresses, Oscar and his grandson learn about love and life through their past and find a way to move on in towards the future.
