Food Friday: Cannoli

Friday, April 29th, 2016 by WLOY Staff

cannoli What: 60 cent Cannoli

Where: Vaccaro’s Italian Pastry Shop

When: May 12 9am to 10pm

I don’t think this Food Friday needs too much advertising, if “60 cent Cannoli’s” doesn’t grab you then I don’t know what will. I can’t help you. No one can help you.

These amazing, fabulous, decadent, carefully made cannoli’s are now going to be available every 2nd Thursday for the rest of the year! Buttt you can’t go into this lovely pastry shop and clean them out! Only two per person, which I think is very fair, I would be fine with half a cannoli for 60 cents, plus… incase you didn’t know… these bad boys are large.

So head on down! Get yo cannoli’s!!!

Baltimore Ballers

Friday, April 29th, 2016 by WLOY Staff

Sports Saturday

Baltimore gets a lot of hype for developing some of the best lacrosse talent in the nation, but what is underappreciated is the amount of talent that Baltimore has generated on the hardwood. From NBA scoring champion, to FIBA World Champion, to NCAA Champion, Baltimore has produced a number of guys who have gone on to have success at the next level around the world.

Carmelo Anthony: Arguably the most famous athlete from Baltimore is New York Knicks forward Carmelo Anthony. Anthony is a 9 time all-star, 2 time Olympic Gold Medal winner, and he led the NBA in scoring in 2013. Anthony started his career at Towson Catholic High School before transferring to Oak Hill Academy. Anthony went on to attend Syracuse University in 2003 where he led his team to an NCAA championship in his only year at the school. Anthony was selected No. 3 overall in the 2003 NBA draft by the Denver Nuggets. Anthony spent the first 8 years of his career in Denver before getting traded to the Knicks in 2011. Anthony has done a terrific job giving back to the Baltimore community as well. He hosts an annual 3-on-3 tournament called “Melo’s H.O.O.D.” (Holding Our Own Destiny). The purpose of this event is to help fund the revitalization of the local community center for the youth. He also founded “The Carmelo Anthony Youth Development Center”, which he donated $1.5 million to the Living Classrooms Foundation. (more…)

penguincircle What: Penguin Coast

Where: Maryland Zoo

When: Hours

I am very excited to tell you about Penguin Coast at the Maryland Zoo and I think I might procrastinate on everything and go visit penguins. They are cute, they are friendly, and they look funny when they walk. I love them.

So waddle on down to the Maryland Zoo to see your favorite lil’ guys in the new exhibit. Penguin Coast features African penguins, this habitat is designed to replicate an African penguin’s environment on the South African Coast. Luckily for us humans, we will be able to get closer than ever and truly observe penguins with the new design. This is a great addition for both the penguins and their fans!

As a smaller restaurant this could possibly be your new go to places in Fells Point for take-out. Go for The Original or the Neighborhood Bird with side of Tempura Broccoli to split with your friends you will not be disappointed!

Tourism Tuesday: Inner Harbor

Tuesday, April 19th, 2016 by WLOY Staff

HarborWhat: The Inner Harbor

Where: The Inner Harbor

When: Whenever you want to go.

I think this might be the most vague Tourism Tuesday, but yes, the Inner Harbor in the spring is something that every tourist and Baltimorean should visit/experience. We have all been spoiled with this amazing weather the past couple of days so how can one not think of a harbor with sail boats, blue crab, water taxis and the taste of a cool drink down by the water.

The Inner Harbor is the place to go because not only do they offer excellent dining choices they also have a wealth of fun activities. Try out the water taxi with the family to see all of Baltimore’s sites, or hit up Ripley’s Believe It or Not, or just go for a nice walk around the harbor.

Museum Monday: Thomas the Train

Monday, April 18th, 2016 by WLOY Staff

Train What: Day Out With Thomas

How about some good old fashioned family fun? I think…yes. Double yes because it is with Thomas. I hope that when you were younger you shared the same obsession with Thomas the Train as I did and this event excites you as much as it excites me.

Bring your little ones from ages 2 and up to go for a fun train ride out in the sun. Along with the train ride there are several other activities to head towards. How about a picture with Sir Topham Hatt, or a magic acts, or even a moon bounce! There will also be carnival games and plenty of activities to keep you and your family busy throughout the day.

Food Friday: Kooper’s Tavern

Friday, April 15th, 2016 by WLOY Staff

1390405603 What: Kooper’s Tavern Brunch

Where: Historic Fells Point

When: Hours

Come on down to fells this weekend…weather is to suppose to balm(y)… and head to Kooper’s Tavern for a great brunch option or lunch if you’re not and never-will-be-a-brunch-person.
I had the pleasure of brunching at Kooper’s this past weekend; I jump started my early afternoon with an excellent table look out onto Thames and the water in Historic Fells Point. And then dove into the Cream of Crab… perfect brunch starter right? But, the Cream of Crab was so delicious I would’ve ate a vat of it.
Kooper’s does have a mean brunch, I got the French toast with whip cream and cinnamon and it was simply perfect. Or bite into a Fish Sandwich for lunch; blackened Atlantic Cod, avocado (amazing), fried onion straws, and cilantro lime aioli make this the perfect sandwich.
Stop on by to Kooper’s this weekend!
