Drake is a Canadian rapper and singer who was inspired by Jay-Z and Clipse. In 2009, So Far Gone was where he really gained traction with “Best I Ever Had,” and “Successful,” which are still getting hundreds of thousands of plays to this day. Thank Me Later, Take Care, Views, Scorpion, Certified Lover Boy, I could go on and on about all his 29 hit albums. $ome $exy $ongs 4 U has some big shoes to fill.
This album has R&B, trap, and funk influences that remind me of Drake’s So Far Gone but combines with the distinct PARTYNEXTDOOR style. At this rate, I don’t think there’s one living soul who hasn’t heard “NOKIA,” it’s literally playing everywhere. And like all Drake songs, it’s a catchy one. “SOMEBODY LOVES ME” reminds me more of PARTYNEXTDOOR’s style rather than Drake, but it’s definitely one of my favorites. “GIMME A HUG” would be a favorite if it didn’t repeat those exact words a thousand times, but the underlying message to Kendrick keeps me listening; he uses this song to address the feud and all those who betrayed him. Overall, I have mixed feelings but this was definitely not my favorite Drake album.
