Chicago’s Brigitte Calls Me Baby is making waves with their debut album, “The Future Is Our Way Out.” This record is a cool mix of classic, smooth mid-century pop and the edgy vibes of early 2000s indie-rock. With Wes Leavins’ crooning vocals leading the way, the band creates a sound that’s both sophisticated and refreshingly raw. Now signed to ATO Records, they’re gearing up for a tour that’s sure to be a blast. The album’s mix of jittery post-punk, driving rhythms, and eerie guitar lines dives deep into themes of mortality, marking a strong start for Brigitte Calls Me Baby’s promising journey.

“The Future Is Our Way Out” is a 11-track album with a 37-minute listening time. The second song on the album, “Pink Palace” is the perfect exemplar of a late-90s- early 2000’s vibe. By the third track, “Eddie My Love,” we’re truly exposed to the group’s versatility. “Eddie My Love” is actually my favorite song right now on my personal playlist, due to its 1960’s “doowop” influence. Not the mention the beautiful lyricism of the chorus being “I thought I knew me, but I didn’t know myself. You saw right through me and truth was I never fell so hard.” The following tracks “Too Easy” and “Impressively Average” carry a similar tone due to Leavin’s Elvis-like vocals. “The Future Is Our Way Out” is such an amazing album and I’m so excited to see the development of Brigitte Calls Me Baby.
