Review: Khalid began his music career around 2016, blending RnB and pop with a more soulful style. His single entitled “Location” dropped before his high school graduation and became one of the top songs of the year. Khalid now has 4 studio albums, with his latest titled After the Sun Goes Down, which was released October of this year. He explores themes of self-acceptance, love, and freedom, especially in his song “nah”.
Track 4 entitled “nah” is one of my favorite songs at the moment. Khalid wrote this song after a moment in his life where he had to set boundaries and take a step back. The lyrics truly emanate this feeling of needing to withdraw yourself from a bad situation, while the beat of the song shows the same. With the combination of RnB and a calm pop sound, Khalid made a song that listeners could dance and move their body to, or they could listen and resonate with the meaningful lyrics. In a way, “nah” is reminding listeners to protect their peace and remove themselves from situations that could potentially hurt them.
I would recommend this song to anyone who struggles to put up boundaries for themselves. Sometimes, it is important to put yourself first and make sure the people you surround yourself with respect your wishes. If you have been a fan of Khalid’s previous songs, or songs by artists like Giveon or Miguel, check out Khalid’s song “nah” on his new album After the Sun Goes Down.
