Staff Picks: Margaret’s Top 5

March 19th, 2025 by Liz Kosik

Hi, I’m Margaret, a music librarian at WLOY, and here are my top 5 songs of the week!

1. “Dance Yrself Clean” – LCD Soundsystem: The weather is finally warm and that means leaving my dorm early just for that extra slow, soundtrack assisted walk to class that lets me feel like the main character even while I nearly wipeout tripping over my own feet walking into Boulder. LCD Soundsystem is perfect for dragging your everyday moments into the movie starring you. Despite its length this is my current obsession and a 10/10 start to the morning.
2. “Talk” – Lucy Dacus: Would I be able to talk (excuse the pun) about music without mentioning Lucy Dacus? No. Of course not. Keep dreaming. This single just dropped a few days ago to keep teasing as I prepare for the full album on March 28th. Mellow with a slight edge but just enchanting vocals and stellar sound design, highly recommended.
3. “(Oh) Pretty Woman”Van Halen: Windows down, volume blasted, classes done will always be the perfect setting for Van Halen. Whether it’s a late-night drive or a lazy quad afternoon perfect mix of classic Dad rock with that careful touch of teenage rebellion to make a Wednesday feel like the weekend.
4. “Why Is Everyone A DJ?” – Laundry Day: I’m a simple girl. You give me a song that sounds like an early 2000s Disney boyband and I’m going to eat it up every time. Sometimes music is just fun! If you see me head-banging on the humanities porch this is what is BLASTING in my headphones
5. “50 Ways to Leave Your Lover” Paul Simon: For my last pick I’m going with something from my Sunday morning clean up playlists. My mom believes that cleaning is done best on mornings and mornings mean classics for my household so thank you to Paul Simon for being the only reason my bed got made this week.
