Staff Picks: Liz’s Top 5
March 5th, 2025 by Liz Kosik
Hi, everyone! PR Director Liz here! The WLOY crew hopes our Loyola community is getting some well-deserved rest this spring break. Here are my current top five songs I’ve been listening to this week!
1. “It Had to Be You” – Frank Sinatra: Frank Sinatra is one of my all-time favorite artists! His music reminds me of summers with my grandparents, drinking Stewart’s orange soda and getting ready to watch The Lawrence Welk Show. I even hope to have my first dance at my wedding to this song.
2. “MIRACLE WORKER” – Forrest Frank & Tori Kelly: I guess I’m sticking with a “Frank” theme here! Forrest Frank is a popular Christian artist known for songs like “NO LONGER BOUND.” This track highlights the beautiful vocals of both Frank and Tori Kelly, making for an incredible duet.
3. “Let’s Hear It for the Boy” – Deniece Williams: Footloose is a movie I can always rewatch, so it’s no surprise this track made my top five. Whether you’re watching the 1984 original with Kevin Bacon or the 2011 adaptation, this song is a key part of both.
4. “Christ, Be Our Light” – Frank Brownstead Choir: I promise I didn’t plan to pick so many artists named Frank lmao! “Christ, Be Our Light” is a Sunday favorite at Loyola’s Alumni Chapel, and our university chorus always does it justice.
5. “Hey Jude” – The Beatles: A classic for everyone, but especially meaningful for our graduating class as we inch closer to commencement. The famous lyrics “And anytime you feel the pain, hey Jude, refrain, don’t carry the world upon your shoulders” remind us to focus on what we can control.
