Top 40 readers, I’d like to introduce you to Dan Mangan. He’s the guy over there, to the left. Frankly, he looks a little like WLOY’s former GM, the legendary Tim Teeling. But similarities aside, Mr. Mangan is a Canadian singer-songwriter with a certain knack for music. He finds himself at number two on the list this week, taking the place of Washed Out (the subject of last week’s Top 40). Anyway, be sure to give Dan Mangan’s newest, Oh Fortune, a listen, especially if you’re a fan of the Damien Rice, Andrew Bird, or Frank Turner types.

Top 40 for 9.29.11

We don’t see very much fluctuation in the top few albums in this week’s Top 40, but be mindful of some of the spots below the top two! New additions to the list are aplenty. Keep your eye out for Dan Mangan’s new alum, Oh Fortune (a personal favorite of this music director’s), as well as Baltimore’s own Future Islands (pictured to the left). (more…)

Top 40 For 9.22.11

Here we are in the second Top 40 of the year, and Bon Iver remains unhinged. Fall weather is fast approaching though, and Just Vernon’s summery melodies are sure to forfeit the top spot as sure as the leaves will change. Who will take the spot, though? Will it be post-rockers Mogwai and their decidedly different EP which makes its debut at #5 today, or possibly a mainstay on the WLOY Top 40, like Dom? Either way, make sure you keep checkin back at WLOY, Loyola Radio to see how it pans out! Pictured left is the dude from Washed Out.

School is back in session, and you know what that means! Yes… more weekly installments of WLOY Loyola Radio’s Top 40 albums of the week. For freshmen and newcomers to WLOY, this is a good indication of what the station is digging; and consequently, what we think you should dig, too! So, as you’re getting acclimated back to school life and readjusting from lazy summer days to diligent fall days (or, in some cases, just as lazy days), play a few of these, and keep your ears open for them on while listening at wloy.org– we guarantee you’ll like at least a few! Last Top 40 of the year! Nearing the end of this joyous celebration, The Strokes have ended up on top of the pile with John Darnielle and The Mountain Goats not far behind. So, in case you need some stress relief while cramming for finals and realizing how badly in trouble you are for your upcoming tests, relax to some “Under Cover of Darkness” or “Estate Sail Sign.” Trust me, you won’t be sorry!
