February 2nd, 2011 by WLOY Staff

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

BALTIMORE, MD (February 1, 2011)-

WLOY, the non-profit, student-run radio station at Loyola University Maryland, has been honored as one of the top fifty college radio stations on the 2011 mtvU College Radio Woodie list. Stations that have been nominated to this list are being recognized as pioneers in the industry, exposing the most recent emerging music. Nominations are now open to the public for voting on RateMyProfessors.com. WLOY for the first time is accompanying the biggest names in college radio including previous winners, WICB-Ithaca and KUPS-Tacoma. As WLOY strengthens in listenership, an acknowledgment such as this can only increase the station’s prevalence on air.

On Tuesday February 8th Rate My Professor will be unveiling the Top 25 nominees for the Woodie Award. The winner of the award will be announced live for the first time on air on March 16th on MTV, MTV2, and mtvU.

WLOY is Loyola University Maryland’s campus radio station.  Going on the air in 2003, the station is entirely student run, with all board member positions being filled by current undergraduate and graduate students.  WLOY offers a variety of live shows of different genres. Shows are hosted by students and community members and incorporate children from the community. WLOY has been recognized and awarded by both local and national organizations. For more information regarding WLOY’s shows or fundraising efforts, please email wloy@loyola.edu or call 410-617-5349.
