Tourism Tuesday: The Baltimore Basilica
December 6th, 2011 by Tamarah Lawrence
Since we all attend a Jesuit institution, why not take a tour of the Baltimore Basilica? It is recognized as America’s first cathedral, the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary. Construction on the Baltimore Basilica started in 1806 and was closed for restoration for two years. They offer guided tours, for a donation fee of two dollars, which lasts about 45 minutes. Be sure to leave time to shop at the gift shop. You may also be interested in volunteering after you tour the facilities. The Basilica is located on 409 Cathedral Street in Baltimore; they can be reached by phone at 410-727-3565 or you can visit their website.

Movie Night: Yellow Submarine
December 6th, 2011 by Joe Lomuti
Do you love The Beatles? Well you should, and you should also stop by 3rd Floor Reading Room, Dec 8th, at 9pm for a showing of Yellow Submarine. Join the whole gang, Paul, John, George, and Ringo, as they take a surreal journey to Pepperland, an unearthly paradise 80,000 leagues under the sea. Then, follow the group to world’s only possible through the imagery of The Beatles’ music and heavy drug use of the 1960′s. The movie is embellished with a delightful soundtrack of many Beatles classics, including “A Day in the Life” and “Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds.” WLOY will be supplementing the journey into the psychedelic dimensions with popcorn and refreshments, along with a chance to enter in WLOY’s Free Laundry raffle. This will be the last event of the semester, so come by to relax before finals!

Doesn’t it feel like Christmas comes just a little bit earlier either year? If this really is the case, consider me a proponent of the phenomenon.
