Let the Madness Begin!

March 15th, 2016 by Brendan Pierce

Sports Saturday

2016 March Madness Preview

Bubble Teams: There is no perfect system in figuring out who the top 36 at large bids should go to in the NCAA tournament, but I think that the NCAA got a lot wrong in the selection process. There are three teams that are in the field that have no business being in the tournament. Tulsa, Syracuse, and Vanderbilt should be incredibly appreciative of their bid. Tulsa had a very average season that was not worthy of the NCAA tournament. Tulsa went 20-11 including 12-6 in a mediocre American Athletic Conference. Nothing on their resume really stood out. They were 6-6 on the road, 4-5 vs the RPI top 50, and 8-8 vs the RPI top 100. Syracuse is another team that I did not think deserved a bid. They had a down year for their standards going 19-13. They went 3-8 in games on the road and had an RPI of 70. The last team that got into the tournament that I did not think belongs is Vanderbilt. They also went 19-13 and went 5-11 in games on the road or on a neutral court. They were 2-7 vs RPI top 50 teams. Instead of these teams getting in, I would have given their spots to mid major teams like Monmouth and St. Bonaventure. They did everything they had to do out of conference, but they got punished because their conference is not as strong as the teams who got in. Read the rest of this entry »

Tourism Tuesday: Sherwood Gardens

March 15th, 2016 by Allison Langley

Sherwood What: Sherwood Gardens

Where: Off of St. Paul Street

When: Whenever!

With all of this perfect weather it is hard not to think of pretty tulips and bright red roses. Luckily there is the Sherwood Gardens to take all of these magical images and make them come alive. So when in Baltimore in the spring this could not be a better place to visit.
For all of you Loyola students it very convenient to get to, and for the tourist it would be an excellent stop along all of your Charm City travels.

The space was originally a pond and a lake but then those were filled in when they began the creation of the Sherwood Gardens. It began as a hobby for John Sherwood in the 1920s but then turned into something much bigger and beautiful. The tulips were imported from the Netherlands, these have become some of the most popular tulips in North America.

So at your leisure stop by the Sherwood Gardens along with your other adventures! For more historical information on the gardens click here.

Cullen Omori- New Misery

March 11th, 2016 by Margaret Jokoh

cover170x170-2Cullen Omori– New Misery

Released: March 18, 2016

Rate: 6/10

Cullen Omori is coming out with a new album March 18. New Misery is heavily synth driven, and generally a very chill album. Omori sounds like a slightly darker version of the band “Swmrs” mixed with a blast from the past. The production of the album is very well done, the guitar tone is amazing, and every instrument fits in perfectly. Though this may be a plus, I wish the album had more depth to it, the album just seems to be dragging along, I would love to hear more drums, or even a tonal difference in Omori’s voice, some more character or ”attitude”. The laid back attitude can sometimes get very mundane. Other than that, I think the album is a very good, one, you can tell that Omori has developed his sound and the type of music he enjoys playing. He is just starting out and I think he has a lot of room for growth and a bright future ahead.
