Wacky Wednesday: Joe Squared

On Loyola’s campus alone there are over five places that will deliver pizza right to our hungry pizza craving faces. But if you’re interested in a different and perhaps more entertaining way to chomp on some cheesy crust, consider Joe Squared.

The restaurant, bar, slash music venue offers a new setting in which to enjoy the classic meal. The eccentric pizzeria hosts artists for acoustic dinners from 7-9p.m almost every night.

Music variety mimics Joe’s extensive topping choices, ranging from indie rock to funky jazz and occasional break dance parties. Located a quick drive from Loyola, Joe Squared can provide a delish meal and great tunes any night of the week. (more…)

Wacky Wednesdays: Stoneleigh Lanes

Like bowling but wish it was different? Search no more! Down the street from Loyola lay Stoneleigh Lanes, which features 16 lanes of duckpin bowling. Yes, you heard me correctly: I said duckpin bowling. And no, it doesn’t involve ducks. Although the rules are similar to normal ten-pin bowling, duckpin bowling is not the bowling that you may be used to playing. Voted the “Best Bowling Alley” by Baltimore Magazine, Stoneleigh Lane’s duckpin bowling is a new and interesting way to bowl!

Wacky Wednesday: Baltimore Clayworks

With a variety of programs involving hands-on classes, short workshops, lectures and gallery talks, Baltimore Clayworks provides us with very intimate and enhanced access to the world of ceramic art.

Clayworks also offers informal educational programs during open studio time, where individuals can work with artists, students, and interns as well as gaining inspiration from the works of residents and national artists alike. You can also check out the exhibits on display in support of local artists. Children, families, friends, all are welcome to a good time here.

Every Saturday between 3 and 6 PM, McFadden Art Glass, a custom glassblowing studio, offers beginner glassblowing workshops where you get to have hands-on involvement in making your own glass creation.

Wacky Wednesday: Bingo World

As their website touts, Baltimore is home to Bingo World, the biggest bingo jackpots of the Mid-Atlantic. Every night, $20,000 is given out amongst the winners. Now, that’s a pretty good game of Bingo.

So, why not take a break from all the stress and go play a friendly game of Bingo? Open every day at 10 AM, with at least three official bingo sessions per day, you have the potential to spend just a little and win a lot! That’s not even mentioning the 15-minute intermission filled with a medley of other chances to win.

Wacky Wednesday: Edgar Allan Poe Gravesite

Author Edgar Allan Poe is highly revered in literature, the nation, and particularly his hometown of Baltimore. In fact, so revered that his gravesite attracts many on a typical drive through the city.

Poe was originally buried in 1849 in an unmarked grave. Today, that is far from the case. The marble monument is both unmistakable and unavoidable. The granite base itself measures 6 feet on each side. A bust of Poe sits atop the base, inscribed with the dates 1809 and 1849 and Poe’s name along the bottom.

Wacky Wednesday: Jewelry Fair at the Walters

Ready to get glammed up? This weekend, Friday November 5th through Sunday November 7th, The Walters Art Museum Jewelry Fair returns for its seventh year.  Ranging from modern to conventional, there’s bound to be something for everyone’s taste.

As one of The Walters’ most anticipated traditions, it will feature 20 of the finest jewelers in the country and bestow an award from the American Jewelry Design Council. There will also be a fashion show, an opening night party and a program called “Finders Keepers” where you can search for hidden jewelry and keep what you find!

Wacky Wednesday: Night of 100 ELVISes

How do you feel about The King? How do you feel about 100 of him? Whether you consider yourself a fan of The King or a good time, get your blue suede shoes ready for the 17th Annual Night of 100 ELVISes.

As a tribute to the one and only Elvis Presley, there will be at least a dozen bands and tribute artists playing your favorite Elvis tunes over the course of the weekend-spanning event. Other forms of entertainment, like the annual ice sculpture of Elvis with his guitar, will pay tribute to The King as well, not to mention the complimentary southern buffet filled with some of Elvis’ favorite dishes.
