Mayor’s Christmas Parade ’11

Tuesday, December 6th, 2011 by Kate Marshall

The fine folks in charge of the Mayor’s Christmas Parade invited little old us to join in the fun again.  Honored, and wiser after last year’s candy cane shortfall, we armed ourselves with 1,000 canes, plus little stuffed critters and fabulous snowballs.  Well… that didn’t last nearly as long as we hoped as the turnout (thanks to the above zero temps) was huge.  Some of the great kids in our (National Award Winning) What Happens Next? program came and walked with us, giving out candy like professional elves.  We also added tunes and put Santa Hillary in the sleigh to keep things lively.  Hillary appreciated all the attention but refuses to let us hand out her phone number guys, sorry.  Next year we need to spice it up even more… ideas? Movie Night: Yellow Submarine

Tuesday, December 6th, 2011 by Joe Lomuti

Do you love The Beatles? Well you should, and you should also stop by 3rd Floor Reading Room, Dec 8th, at 9pm for a showing of Yellow Submarine. Join the whole gang, Paul, John, George, and Ringo, as they take a surreal journey to Pepperland, an unearthly paradise 80,000 leagues under the sea. Then, follow the group to world’s only possible through the imagery of The Beatles’ music and heavy drug use of the 1960′s. The movie is embellished with a delightful soundtrack of many Beatles classics, including “A Day in the Life” and “Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds.” WLOY will be supplementing the journey into the psychedelic dimensions with popcorn and refreshments, along with a chance to enter in WLOY’s Free Laundry raffle. This will be the last event of the semester, so come by to relax before finals!
