The Lonely Forest

Grade: A

The Lonely Forest, an indie rock band from Anacortes, Washington releases their fourth studio album,  Adding up the Wasted Hours on October 15, 2013. The album is a mix of indie rock and the influence of synthesizers to give it a unique sound. The introduction of synthesizers really enhances the sound of each and every song. The Lonely Forest though does not stray to far from from its indie roots. Adding up the Wasted Hours is similar to music from the Bombay Bicycle Club and Vampire Weekend. Every song on the album is a new journey that the listener is taken on. (more…)

Review: Linkin Park – Recharged

Monday, October 28th, 2013 by Margaret Jokoh

Recharged_ItunesRecharged

Linkin Park

Grade: D

The rock band, Linkin Park released its second remix album, Recharged, on October 29, 2013. The album fell short from the band’s usual numetal sound. It was manufactured, and not as organic as the band’s usual sound. The remix album sounds very dubstep, which usually would be a great thing to add to a rock sound. (more…)

Nick_Drake_Pink_MoonKathleen McKeveny– “Pink Moon”- Nick Drake –

Because he made the whole sullen singer songwriter/turtle neck wearing/ sexy lanky guy thing work the first time around. Those songs are just the best of their kind, no matter how many wannabe Nick Drakes there are out there, he’s still nuuuuumero uno :0

Top 20 Tracks 10.20.13

Thursday, October 24th, 2013 by Billy Dries

photo_arcade_fireThis week’s Top 20 is stacked with amazing artists, some have been there for weeks now like Washed Out, but others are new additions this week. In high anticipation of her debut album, Sky Ferreira’s hit “Everything is Embarrassing”  has surged into the top half of the chart, just three spots away from song collaborator Dev Hynes, AKA Blood Orange, also charting highly in anticipation of his new album “Cupid Deluxe” due out in November. Repeat offenders in our Top 5 this week include “Reflektor” and “Don’t Save Me”, but hey maybe next week they’ll get dethroned, only time will tell.

Review: Melophobia – Cage the Elephant

Thursday, October 17th, 2013 by Billy Dries

MelophobiaCage The Elephant

Melophobia

Letter Grade: B

Melding together the upbeat songwriting that made their first two albums so successful, with a distinctly more lo-fi sound, the third release from Bowling Green Alt-rockers, Cage the Elephant, continues to drive more traditional Rock N Roll into the mainstream.  Melophobia, the follow up to 2011’s wildly successful Thank You, Happy Birthday, starts off with two fast paced jams before slowing down in the third track, Telescope, a slow moving, somewhat sad, surf guitar fueled little ditty that is stuck somewhere in between The Beach Boys and Mac Demarco.
