Gooch Palms Interview

Saturday, April 6th, 2019 by The Professor

Leroy, one half of the magical Australian madness that is The Gooch Palms stopped by the station today to chat with the Professor about their upcoming show at The Crown here in Baltimore. As long as he was here we wandered off on topics from touring the US as a couple in an RV, their new album, signing to a major label (and yet being able to keep their indie label brand), aliens in Texas, moving back to Australia, why they haven’t been in the station since 2016, and Kat’s amazing new addition to her touring kit. Check it out and make sure to catch them at The Crown, or when they come back in the fall in support of the new third album, which may or may not be called THREE… and drops May 10th.

The Mayor’s Christmas Parade – Gallery

Monday, November 5th, 2018 by The Professor

WLOY has been a part of the Mayor’s Annual Christmas Parade in Hampden since 2010 when we were invited to enter. We naturally assumed this meant we needed a float so we built one. Unlike all the other media that entered the parade with their generic vans, we got a bit serious… We have lots of photos from the various years but below are links to the official ones on the parade’s website. Perhaps the best result was when the parade was up for US Today’s 10 Best Holiday Parades in the US award. The featured image used worldwide was our very own float with Hillary tossing out fuzzy snowballs to the kids lining the sidewalks. We were pretty overwhelmed to see that as the photo used as it was a complete surprise! The parade is coming back this year (December 2nd, 1:00pm) and runs from Falls Rd & Cold Spring Lane along Falls Road South to 38th Street where it turns East and runs to Chestnut, turning North and ending. Join the fun (and 20,000 friends) and say hi to WLOY. Who knows what this year’s theme will be?? Read on for the image gallery! (more…)

Monday, October 8th, 2018 by The Professor

On Monday October 8, Emma caught Mike Mains on the phone for a few minutes between DC and Philly shows. She managed not to mention Mac DeMarco even once. Mike discussed his newest single and the new album When We Were In Love due later this year.

Mike Mains & The Branches first entered the national music scene with the release of their debut album Home, released in 2012. While touring Home, founding members Mike and Shannon fell in love and got married. Mike and Shannon began writing their second album, which they crowdfunded without the support of a record label, in 2013. Matt Hoopes, of Relient K, would produce the finished album, with Zach Farro of Paramore, playing drums. They the finished Calm Down Everything’s Fine and released the album in 2014. The album hit the top 20 ranks on Billboard’s New Artist Albums Chart.
